STAGEDIVE

Stagedive is a design project that I am currently working on as a part of my education. I wanted to create a social platform for professional performing artists. A part of the service should function as a search engine, where one can filter and search to find the exact artist one is looking for.

An example of a user scenario:

At Blåkulla theater, a big musical production has been set up. The premiere is approaching, there are only two weeks left and expectations are high. But then, the worst possible thing happens. The lead actress, Lisa, falls and breaks her leg. Now, Blåkulla theater must quickly find a replacement. However, it will not be easy. They need someone who can both sing opera, tapdance, do acrobatics and play the violin to cover everything that Lisa has done on stage...

The video below shows how the staff at Blåkulla theater might use StageDive to find a suitable replacement:

Prototype created in Figma.

After interviews and surveys with both employers and professional artists, I began working with this potential solution. The idea is to have an ever ongoing online audition.

Purpose: To create a social platform for professionals and employers in the performing arts to separate work and personal life, facilitate digital marketing, and allow more people to feel like they have a chance to be seen.

Need: When applying for a job in the performing arts, performers want to present the most representative image of themselves possible. Therefore, many performers in the performing arts submit additional material, such as a link to their YouTube channel or Instagram account. There are recruitment services in the performing arts, but they are expensive, inefficient, and impersonal. Instead, many people use chat groups, social contacts, or voluntarily contact theaters via email. But there is no guarantee that anyone will see this, and there is a desire to separate work life from personal life, both in terms of self-promotion and job searching. At the same time, many want to learn more about digital marketing, and most look at other artists' digital channels because it's fun and inspiring.

Approach: A website for digital marketing, where everyone gets help creating personalized content. It should be fun to create and fun to look at other people's pages. It should be easy to seamlessly browse and filter between different artists to find the one you're looking for, or be inspired by others. Ideally, employers could also use the same service to post jobs.

Benefit: Since the service is specific to the profession, work and personal life are separated. More people can be seen for their special abilities, thanks to the fact that it's more fun to use a page like this, as well as efficient search and filtering options to find what you're looking for. Also, this is a social platform that aims to create a sense of solidarity and community.
